TLL has Valerie Wong to lead the curriculum development and training team.
Valerie Wong (Head – Curriculum Development and Training)
Valerie is very passionate about how children learn language and firmly believes that there is a great need to help teachers and parents of young children understand and appreciate how children acquire language and literacy. She has been a teacher since 1979 and has taught all levels, from preschool through adult education. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College, Boston, USA and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA. She also holds a teaching certificate from the Institute of Education, Singapore, and is a trained MOE teacher by profession. Valerie began her career in the education field as a primary and secondary school teacher before starting a kindergarten in 1996. She was Principal of the kindergarten for about 10 years before she left this post to pursue her interest in training preschool teachers as a full-time lecturer in an accredited preschool training agency in Singapore. She splits her time between training primary school English language teachers, providing professional input to teachers in schools as well as training early childhood professionals in the different modules required in professional certifications for ECE. She constantly provides upbeat, informative and interactive workshops and seminars to parents and preschools teachers on a variety of topics. She was featured in a radio talk show on reading issues in Singapore in 2006 and she has been conducting training on literacy and language learning for preschool teachers in Manila, Philippines, and in different preschool learning centres in Singapore on a voluntary basis.
